The crisis rocking the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in South-west has taken a new dimension as more leaders of the party have rejected Governor Seyi Makinde as the leader of the party in the zone.
The party has been enmeshed in crisis over who should be the leader of the party in the region.
The power tussle is between Makinde and a former governor of Ekiti State, Ayodele Fayose.
Makinde’s position as the only PDP governor in the zone conferred on him the leadership position in line with the norms and traditions of the PDP.
However, many leaders of the party in the zone including Fayose, have however, rejected Makinde
Fayose until the election of Makinde in 2019 was the leader of PDP in the zone .
Makinde’s rejection by Fayose and the other leaders followed the disagreement over the composition of the party’s officials in the zone.
While Fayose enjoys followership of four of the six states chairmen, those of Oyo and Ondo are with Makinde.
Makinde on Monday, however, lost the support of some key leaders in Ondo State.
The Ondo PDP leaders pitched their tents with Fayose when they paid the former Ekiti governor a solidarity visit at his Lagos residence.
The delegation was led by Senator Nicholas Tofowomo, representing Ondo South District in the National Assembly.
Fayose, who was once the Chairman of the party’s Governors’ Forum , while addressing the leaders berated Makinde and urged him to warned his supporters.
Fayose said: “Tell the baby governor that the way up is the way down. Governor Makinde is not my leader. He is my follower.”
