Court remands blogger in prison

An Igbosere Magistrate Court in Lagos on Friday ordered that a blogger, Mr. Desmond Ike, publisher of myemag. net and e-Nigeria. com be remanded in Ikoyi prison

Ike was arraigned on a five-count charge before the court after he was arrested by the police following a petition by Mr. Phillips Oduoza, the GMD\CEO of UBA.

Ike has been posting malicious publications against Oduoza alleging that he was having an illicit affair.

The accused, who was granted bail after the arraignment, but was unable to fulfil the bail condition before the court closed on Friday, has been remanded at the Ikoyi Prison.

The case has been adjourned until October 30.

Ike’s arrest and subsequent arraignment in court is coming few days after  two popular bloggers, Seun Oloketuyi of Naijahottestgist.com and Chris Kehinde Uwandu, famously known as CKN were arrested and detained for similar offense.

Recently, several high profile individuals have challenged false publications against them by unscrupulous elements who hide under the guise of being bloggers but are actually using their blogs to blackmail individuals to extort money in the guise of seeking for advert patronage on their websites.

Bankers, especially managing directors have been the worst victims of this trend.
