We’ll welcome Obi back into APGA, says Obiano

Anambra State governor, Chief Willie Obiano, yesterday said the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) will welcome back into the party, the former governor of the state, Mr. Peter Obi, if he was willing to return to the party.

He made the statement at the 25th wedding anniversary of the immediate past National Chairman of APGA, Chief Victor Umeh, at Aguluzigbo, Aniocha Local Government Area of Anambra State. Obiano, who is also the leader and Chairman, Board of Trustees (BoT) of the party, said efforts were in top gear to build a stronger APGA by extending hands of friendship to all former and new members.

He said: “Our government came into being through the combination of Peter Obi and Victor Umeh on one side and the people on the other, but unfortunately, Obi left us. “But Umeh and the rest of us have resolved to stay back and build a stronger, greater and better party that will stand the test of time.

“So, we want all our members back. We are willing to welcome anybody who wishes to return, including Obi,” Obiano said. On his part, Umeh, who celebrated his 53rd birthday and eight years as APGA National Chairman, attributed the success of his tenure to the effectiveness of the nation’s judiciary.

He said the party was in court 43 times and had emerged victorious in all cases; including that which was used to reclaim the mandate of Obi.

He said: “We acted in the best interest of the party and my tenure was a trying one, because it was in turbulence at that time, but now that we are stable as a party, the sky is the limit,” Obiano said. Bishop Paulinus Ezeokafor of Awka Catholic Diocese, who celebrated the holy mass, reminded Nigerians of the transient nature of life and urged them to build heavenly treasures for themselves.
