We did not work against Buhari —Pro-Saraki senators

Bukola Saraki

Senators of the All Progressives Congress (APC) from the North, who joined the 81 senators who moved a confidence vote on Senate President, Bukola Saraki, on Thursday, denied the allegation that they were working against President Muhammadu Buhari

The lawmakers, who addressed a press conference in the Senate, said the publication in a national daily on Thursday, was in bad faith.

The senators, who were led to the press conference by the chairman, Senate ad hoc Committee on Media and Publicity, Senator Dino Melaye, said the enemies of Buhari were those who invited senators to the International Conference Centre on June 9, using the name of the president, thus making them to miss the inauguration of the Senate.

Senate Leader, Senator Ali Ndume, had raised raised a point of order, alleging that the the Lagos-based newspaper breached the privilege of senators in its publication, which alleged that 22 senators from the North, who backed the motion of vote of confidence on Saraki were working against Buhari.

Ndume, however, caused a row when he alleged that Senator Bola Tinubu was behind the publication.

The allegation raised the ire of  Senator Oluremi Tinubu, who objected to Ndume’s allegation.

While commenting on the report, Senator Mohammed Shittu, (Jigawa North-East), recited some Quranic verses to rain curses on those who allegedly sponsored the publication.

He also rained curses on the writers and sponsors of the publication, describing them as enemies of Nigeria.

Ndume later laid the publication on the Senate table, while the Senate President referred the matter to the Senate Committee on Ethics and Privileges for further investigation.

Saraki, who ruled on the point of order, asked the committee to submit its report within one week.

Senator Melaye said at the  press conference said noted that the newspaper report, which described the Northern senators, backing Saraki as anti-Buhari, was wicked, satanic and unacceptable.

According to him, the sponsors of the publication were actually the real enemies of the president, as according to him, they were capable of causing disunity between the South and the North.

Melaye insisted that the publication was a great disservice to the country, adding that the members and leadership of the eighth Senate were committed to moving the nation forward by ensuring the success of Buhari’s programmes and policies.

Another senator, who commented on the issue, Senator Binta Garba (Adamawa North), said it was mischievous that anyone would linked her to groups that oppose Buhari, as according to her, she was looking forward to Buhari to routing the insurgents from the North-East.

The couple called it quits last week after two years together. Sources told Page Six they were on different pages about where the relationship was heading.

“While they care for each other, Devin was not going to propose marriage and his priority is his career,” the insider told us. “Kendall’s career also dominates her life.”

Just last month, the notoriously private reality star attended big sis Kourtney Kardashian and Blink-182 drummer Travis Barker’s wedding in Italy, with Booker in tow.

They were also recently spotted together at family friend Anastasia “Stassie” Karanikolaou’s birthday in Los Angeles.
