Tambuwal denies endorsing any candidate for Speakership

Immediate past Speaker and governor of Sokoto State, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal has disclosed that he has no anointed candidate.

The former Speaker said this during a courtesy visit from various lawmakers including Bauchi State’s Hon. Yakubu Dogara (APC), who is one of the aspirants for the position.

Tambuwal called on the two aspirants for the Speakership positions to observe decorum in the process and advised them to keep their campaign issues-based. He also stated that he would ensure transparency and an acceptable transition in the 8th National Assembly.

“Efforts should be made to reduce the current tensions generated by the race, as it is already high. The house should be made more stable to build on the legacies of the 7th Assembly. Continuity is very important and the two groups need each other. Efforts should be made to de-emphasise and turn down anything that may promote rancour and hatred,” the governor advised.

Commenting on Tambuwal’s legacy at the 7th National Assembly, Hon. Dogara said that the former Speaker would never be forgotten in the historical annals of Nigeria. He called Tambuwal a mentor whom they had to let go in pains to serve his people as their newly elected governor.

Collaborating Dogara’s position, the former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Babangida Goroje said that Nigerians, and especially the National Assembly members will miss Tambuwal’s leadership.
