Super Falcons Media Officer dies

The senior women national football team, Super Falcons, has announced the loss of its Media Officer, Miss Gracious Akujobi, to the cold hands of death this morning.

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) confirmed the death of Akujobi on its website.

Akujobi died of an undisclosed illness.

The deceased who lodged at the team’s Parkview Hotel, Zone 1, was said to have suddenly appeared very ill at the early hours of the morning. The team doctor and physiotherapist and other officials were said to have moved quickly to attend to her and then rushed her to the General Hospital, Maitama, Abuja,but she died on the way.

The NFF General Secretary, Dr. Mohammed Sanusi, expressed his regrets and described the shocking incidence as a tragic occurrence.

“This is a very tragic occurrence. Gracious was such an energetic, hard–working officer and her death has come as a terrible shock. Her commitment to the job was never in doubt.

“The NFF is in deep mourning with her family over this tragedy,” Sanusi said.

Gracious Ihunanya Akujobi was a native of Imo state and was born on October 26, 1977.

She first served as Media Officer of the Super Falcons in 2011, before she was moved to the U-17 Women National Team in 2012. She was re-instated to the senior team in 2013 and was with the team at the recently-concluded 7th FIFA Women’s World Cup finals in Canada.
