Salvador, alongside other aspirants for the various offices were unanimously elected at the state congress of the party held in Ikeja, Lagos.
Those who emerged with Salvador at the congress included Prince Muiz Shodipe (Secretary), Chief Ola Apena (Deputy Chairman), Mr. Taofik Gani (Publicity Secretary), Taiwo Kuye (Organising Secretary), and Princess Olateru Olagbebi (Woman leader).
The new chairman In his acceptance remarks promised to unite aggrieved members and make instilling discipline in the party his topmost priority.
Salvador said “I want to extend my sincere gratitude to all leaders of our party especially Chief Olabode George. I thank members for standing against division within the party. Today, a new era is on ground and I want to appeal to all aggrieved members to work together for the progress of our party”, he said
He called on members of the party to work as a united force to defeat the All Progressives Congress (APC) in future elections.
Salvador said, “We have ample opportunity to defeat the APC. We all have a responsibility to make this party great, let us therefore work together to make this party a great one.”
However, it was learnt that a faction of the party which has been at loggerheads with the leadership of the state PDP was not represented at the congress. Those loyal to the faction led by former Minister of State for Defence, Ambassador Musiliu Obanikoro, rejected the outcome of the congress. A member of the group who spoke on condition of anonymity said, “How can someone emerge without a group represented? Let’s wait and see if that would fly.”
The Congress Returning Officers, who conducted the election include Messrs Kayode Ariwawo, Azuka and Femi Williams. Mr Ariwawo, who spoke before the commencement of the congress said it was a family congress.
