Police, DSS take over Lagos Assembly after Speaker’s impeachment

Joint security forces involving the police and the Department of State Services (DSS) have taken over the Lagos State House of Assembly’s complex in Alausa, following the impeachment of Speaker Mudashiru Obasa.

Obasa was impeached on Monday over allegations of financial misappropriation and abuse of office.

In his stead, the Assembly elected Mojisola Meranda from Apapa 1 constituency as the new speaker.

Our correspondent who visited the assembly complex at Alausa, Ikeja, reported that shortly after news of the impeachment filtered in, security forces stormed the assembly complex.

The main entrance of the assembly was blocked with a security van, which prevented vehicular movement into and exit the complex.

Meanwhile, the impeached speaker, Obasa, who is currently outside the country, failed to respond to several calls put through his mobile phone for reaction as of the time of this report.
