The leadership of the Oodua People’s Congress, OPC, has accused a former Lagos State governor, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu of being behind plans to oust Otunba Gani Adams as National Coordinator of OPC.
The group alleged that some dismissed members of the group namely Rasak Balogun, Monsuru Akande, Musiliu Amusa, Adesina Akinpelu, Olayiwola Ogunsolu, Lateef Ogungbayi, Gbenga Egunlusi, Ranti Akande, Lateef Olawale Oshodi, Soji Folorunsho, Segun Olusanya Idowu Akintunde Sunday Bankole Kehinde Ogunyale and Sunday Adebayo had written a letter to the former Lagos State governor, seeking financial support to remove or get rid of Otunba Adams as leader of the OPC.
In a statement by the group’s Director of Media and Publicity, Mr Yinka Oguntimehin, OPC said “this latest evil scheme of these disgruntled elements is coming on the heels of their earlier plans to assassinate Otunba Gani Adams which we exposed some months back. They have also mounted a campaign of calumny and malicious falsehood to malign the person of the national coordinator on print and electronic media all to no avail.”
While it reposed a vote of confidence in the leadership of Adams, the group called on Nigerians to disregard the dismissed members of the group, which it said were “lawless and only interested in creating chaos in the society.”
It stated that “the illegal and criminal conduct of these dismissed elements is no longer fashionable and not in tandem with the current aspirations of the repackaged OPC led by Otunba Gani Adams which has given birth to five different organizations, saddled with different noble responsibilities that are useful to the society both nationally and internationally.”
“These dismissed elements should come out with concrete evidence of any form of malfeasance or embezzlement of the funds of OPC or any other organization.
It is worthy of note that seventy five percent of OPC funding is sourced by Otunba Gani Adams and this noble act is appreciated by the National Executive Council; National Coordinating Council and the general members of the organization”, it stated.
