Supporters of impeached Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa gathered outside his house in Agege on Monday as investigators prepared to file corruption charges against him.

Obasa, who is currently outside the country, was impeached on Monday for gross misconduct and abuse of office. He has been accused of spending a staggering N17 billion on a gate to the assembly complex.

Obasa has been replaced by Mojisola Miranda from Apapa 1 constituency.

When our correspondent visited Obasa’s residence in Agege, the atmosphere was tense with many of his supporters looking despondent.

Many of them looked shell-shocked – unable to comprehend that the man they believed was untouchable has been impeached

In Agege, the shock was not only contained to Obasa supporters, Residents huddled together too to express disbelief over the impeachment of Obasa.

Some of his supporters have been arrested and detained by security agents inside the Lagos State House of Assembly.
The individuals, who are believed to be members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) from various constituencies across Lagos State, had gathered at the Assembly complex purportedly to protest the impeachment of Obasa.

It was gathered from sources that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has indicated interest to prosecute Obasa.

Recall that in December 2024, an anti-corruption group petitioned the EFCC to probe the assembly over the N17 billion gate project. The group also accused Obasa and the clerk of the House, Onafeko Biliamin, of mishandling constituency intervention funds and projects.

A very reliable source at the EFCC said the body is currently studying the petition and would determine how to go about prosecuting those indicted in the report.
