Nwankwo Kanu hails Dream Team for booking Olympic ticket

Former Arsenal and Ajax Amsterdam star Nwankwo Kanu could not hide his delight after the Nigeria Under – 23s booked their ticket for the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.

The Samson Siasia – led side dug deep before beating host Senegal 1 – 0 at the Stade Léopold Sédar Senghor, Dakar on Wednesday evening courtesy of Oghenekaro Etebo’s goal in the 76th minute from the penalty spot.

Kanu has urged the Dream Team not to make up the numbers next August in Brazil, telling them that they should protect the country’s dignity during the Games.

”Congrats Siasia and your coaching staff and congrats to the players,” Nwankwo Kanu said via social media.

”Well done and let’s go to Brazil and do our country proud.”

The lanky striker represented the original Dream Team at the 1996 Olympic Games held in Atlanta, USA and etched his name into Nigerian football folklore after notching a brace in the 4 -3 win over Brazil in the semifinal.
