Mike Tyson explains what he ‘didn’t understand’ about Jake Paul fight

Mike Tyson explains what he 'didn't understand' about Jake Paul fight | Boxing | Sport

Former heavyweight world champion Mike Tyson has dismissed claims he was tired after his eight-round bout with Jake Paul.

The 58 year old, who last month participated in his first professional fight in nearly two decades against the YouTuber-turned-boxer, insisted that he wasn’t fatigued or sweating despite appearing to tire from the second round onwards.

Despite many fans and critics suggesting that Tyson began to fade in the third round, the American boxer believes the fight went very quickly. Speaking at a pop-up event in Miami, Tyson told 7News: “Magically. It just happened so quick. Eight rounds were over fast. I wasn’t tired. I wasn’t sweating. I didn’t understand that.”

Although Tyson has announced his official retirement from boxing, he hasn’t ruled out remaining involved in the sport. “As I said before the sky is the limit,” he added. “Anything I want, I’m just happy to be able to do it. I’m very grateful to have the opportunity to be able to do everything that I want to do in this and beyond.”

Not long after his wife hinted at Tyson’s retirement from boxing, Mike Tyson’s son, Amir, has suggested that the 58 year old legend may hang up his gloves for good. Speaking to Seconds Out, Amir shared: “I think he’s done. My stepmom, she’s saying he’s done and they’re a team. That’s husband-and-wife stuff.”

In the same discussion, Amir confronted allegations about the fight being orchestrated, remarking: “Some people are on that bogus ‘Oh, it’s rigged’. We know it wasn’t rigged. He just got tired. Jake would move out the way. It looked like he pulled his punches back but Jake’s moving. It’s not like the pads, he’s moving.”

He continued by shedding light on his father’s endurance in the ring, adding: “When someone doesn’t want to accept that someone lost, when it doesn’t go that way of course they’re gonna pull that. And that’s what they’re putting on the internet. His gas tank after the third round was just shot. That’s all it was. He just kept on staying throughout. He did his best. No holding back, he did the best he could at his age.”
