Jack Grealish is the subject of two huge offers with both Manchester City and Aston Villa offering huge financial incentives to ensure his signature for next season.
Premier League champions City have tabled a £100million offer for the playmaker – a deal which would eclipse the record transfer paid by an English club, currently the £89million Manchester United paid for Paul Pogba five years ago.
Villa are intent on tying down their star player to a new contract which would make the 25-year-old the highest paid player in the club’s history £200,000 weekly salary, according to the Daily Star.
The club’s owners – American Wes Edens and Egyptian tycoon Nassef Sawiris – are said to be the driving force behind the contract offer in an attempt to keep him at Villa Park.
Speculation over the England star’s future is being to intensify with news of City’s £100million approach for the player on Friday.
While Villa would be willing to sanction £200,000 per week on the player, City’s offer is likely to be even more financially attractive and they could double his current weekly salary of £130,000.
The club would be willing to make Grealish their third highest earner and in the bracket just behind Kevin De Bruyne and Raheem Sterling – putting him in the bracket of one of the league’s highest earners.
That would be far in excess of City’s previous record transfer – the £62million plus £3million in add-ons paid to Benfica for Ruben Dias last year – and would be the highest ever paid by an English club.
Pep Guardiola is said to be prioritising a deal for Grealish as he seeks to shake up his attacking options for next season and the club’s ownership have sanctioned the lavish offer.
Grealish is a boyhood Villa fan and he has been at the club since he was aged eight but the club are now facing an uphill battle to retain their star.
The playmaker is understandably keen to win trophies and City would offer a near guarantee on that, having landed three of the past four Premier League titles and each of the last four EFL Cup competitions.
