The burial of the slain Commanding Officer of the 149 Battalion of the Nigerian Army, Lt. Col Thomas Ebisingha Alari on Saturday was marked by mourning and tributes.
Alari and 21 soldiers were killed when ISWAP terrorists launched a desperate Vehicle-Borne Improvised Explosive Device (VBIED) attack on troops at Gardiri Base in Damboa Local Government Area last week.
Though the VBIED was intercepted and destroyed by the troops, the shrapnel from the explosion tragically took the lives of those closest to the blast, including Alari, who, as always, was at the front.
The slain Lt. Colonel and the 21 soldiers were laid to rest at the Maimalari Military Cemetery in Maiduguri amid cries and tributes from the army, government and other mourners.
Borno State Governor, Zulum, had earlier announced a donation N30 million to the widow and orphans left behind by late Lt. Colonel.
