Leon Goretzka is on Manchester United’s radar again amid Bayern Munich struggles

Manchester United are keeping tabs on Bayern Munich midfielder Leon Goretzka, with his situation at the Bundesliga champions uncertain.

The 28-year-old has been of interest to the Red Devils in the past, but his last contract extension at Bayern in 2021 ended any possible Premier League move at the time.

He has gone on to win a fifth straight Bundesliga title this season but his form has not been good in the second half of the season and his current position in the team was illustrated during the final game of the season.

Goretzka was on the bench for Bayern’s must-win trip to Koln, was brought on after 71 minutes but substituted himself just 14 minutes later by manager Thomas Tuchel.

The Germany international is not pushing for a move and is happy to stay and fight for his place, but Sky Sport Germany report that Manchester United are ready to pounce if he becomes available.

That may happen if Bayern make a big midfield signing this summer, with the possibility that Declan Rice could make the switch to Bavaria.

Arsenal were thought to be clear favourites to sign the West Ham midfielder this summer, but Bayern have emerged as shock contenders and reports over the weekend suggested they are ‘close’ to bringing the England international to Germany.

That would be a big blow for the Gunners, but could be a plus for United as Goretzka will be more likely to leave if Rice arrives in a big-money deal.
