There was confusion at the Kogi state House of assembly Thursday as 17 out of the 25 members of the assembly impeached the speaker, Momoh Jimoh Lawal (Okene Constituency)Â and two other principal officers of the House.
The two other principal officers impeached include the deputy speaker Aliyu Akuh (Omala Constituency) and minority leader, Hassan Bello (Ajaokuta Constituency).
Godwin Osiyi Ojo (Ogori Magongo constituency) emerged the new speaker while John Abah (Ibaji Constituency) was elected deputy speaker.
Motion for the impeachment was moved on the floor of the House by Ukubile Ochijenu (Idah Constituency) and seconded by Zakari Mohammed.
He said the 17 members unanimously agreed and signed the impeachment document to remove the Speaker on grounds of alleged incompetency, poor leadership style, betrayal of trust and inability to represent them effectively, amongst others.
