Kogi guber: West/Central picks consensus candidate

A coalition of leaders from the Kogi State Western and Central senatorial districts, on Saturday, endorsed Alhaji Suleiman Baba Ali as its consensus candidate for the August 29 primary election of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state.

Ali was a former Commissioner for Health under the ex-governor, Abubakar Audu; a Managing Director, Team Nigeria Trust Fund during President Olusegun Obansanjo’s era and holds a Master Degree holder from the University of Lagos. Baba Ali, who is equally the Gabi Sayadi of Lokoja, is from the Kogi Western Senatorial District.

The coalition headed by former Minister for Health, Prof. Eyitayo Lambo, took the decision in Lokoja, after meeting for many hours at the Reverton Hotel, Lokoja. Earlier, 16 aspirants from the two zones have picked nomination forms for the primary election of the party.

The Committee, according to one of its top members, Alhaji Yusuf Tawari, said all the aspirants were screened before they picked one.

Speaking with journalists, the consensus candidate, Baba Ali, said he was not choosen because he was the most qualified, but because the committee saw him as the candidate that cutacross the three senatorial districts of the state.

Ali thanked the committee for finding him worthy as sole candidate and promised not to betray the confidence reposed in him by the people of West and Central. “I see this development as a moral victory and victory to all other aspirants in these two zones. I salute their maturity and doggedness to ensure our success in the coming primary election,” he added.
