Katsina seals off Glo offices over tax default

Katsina State Urban and Regional Planning Board, yesterday sealed off operational offices of GLO communication offices across the state over the failure of the communication outfit  to pay stipulated taxes.

Addressing newsmen at the GLO office located at the Police Compound Katsina, the General Manager Alhaji Usman Nadada said the seal-off GLO offices by his agency became necessary due to its failure to pay its taxes.

He noted that his office had written several letters to the GLO office requesting it to pay the mandatory taxes, including tenement rent, but seven months after the company had refused to comply.

“We don’t have much problems with the other service providers but as for GLO each year we had to battle them before agreeing to  pay. We will seal their operational offices in Katsina, Daura and Funtua. They will remain closed until they pay.”

Nadada  disclosed that their action was based on the Personal Income Tax Law No20 and Katsina State Property and Tenement Rent  CAP106 Laws of Katsina State of Nigeria Volume 3 1987.

While at the offices, the GM and his team comprising police officers ordered the GLO personals at the premises to close shop and the team used padlock to close the gate.

When newsmen visited the GLO administration office in Katsina, an officer said they were not authorised  to speak, as according to him, only their legal department was competent to speak on the issue.
