Jake Paul tells Conor McGregor to 'lay off the cocaine' after jibe | Boxing | Sport

YouTuber-turned-boxer Jake Paul has fired back at UFC legend Conor McGregor after the Irishman referred to his foe as a ‘little dweeb’ as their war of words turns ugly. The man known as ‘Notorious’ made the barbed remark as he addressed the world’s media as part of a Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship (BKFC) press conference.

The 35-year-old MMA icon, who is a co-owner of the BKFC promotion, nailed his colours to the mast as he backed Mike Perry to prevail against ‘Problem Child’ in their bout on July 20. The contest has been arranged to essentially replace the postponed fight between Paul and Mike Tyson, which had been slated for the same date.

With that event now taking place in November after the former world heavyweight champion suffered a medical episode back in May, Paul’s face off Perry represents a risk for the internet sensation. Ten bouts into a professional career, he could suffer a major setback in terms of his physical condition and his reputation if he incurs an injury or falls to defeat in Tampa, Florida this weekend.

After his own fight with Michael Chandler at UFC 303 was cancelled earlier in the summer, McGregor was clear as he predicted that Perry would have the beating of Paul. He said: “Look at what’s happened to Michael Perry, one of our big stars here. ‘The King of Violence’ he titles himself.

“He’s had such a rise in the sport. Now he’s up against a little dweeb of a thing in a fight this weekend,” the Dubliner continued, with this insult demonstrating his clear disdain for Paul as he dismissed the viral superstar to throw his support behind his opponent, adding: “We’re all rooting for him.”

Now, the former Disney child star has hit back at the former UFC featherweight and lightweight champion as he made an unsubstantiated claim about his adversary as he accused him of drug use. He said: “Conor McGregor can say what he wants but he won’t fight me either.

“So once I knock out Mike Perry, Conor McGregor, let’s run it… but you won’t do it because you know what’s gonna happen. You know what I did to Nate Diaz, who you went toe-to-toe with. So Conor McGregor, lay off the cocaine, get in the gym and start winning fights… and then maybe we can have a conversation.”

Paul is adamant that he will defeat Perry too, as he asserted: “You’re gonna see what I’m gonna do to their best fighter on Saturday night. I’m gonna embarrass their whole entire league. This guy has no skill. Those (BKFC fighters) are just brawler, idiot, street fighter dudes, who have no idea what the sweet science is.”

Defending the decision to face the UFC and BKFC fighter, he said previously: “A lot of people think I’m crazy for pivoting to this; why Mike Perry, why now, why take the risk, you could lose the biggest payday of your life against Mike Tyson if you lose to Mike Perry who is a violent killer, a bare-knuckle, undefeated legend over there. He takes punches like they’re nothing, and he’s fast, he’s athletic, he hits hard, he’s a brawler, and I can’t take that lightly.”

Meanwhile, his upcoming opponent said of Paul: “He’s a disrespectful punk. Those men and women fight for their families over there (in BKFC). They put it all on the line, and they get in that ring, and they put on shows for the fans.”
