YouTuber turned professional boxer Jake Paul, has withdrawn his eight-figure rematch offer to Tommy Fury after the British boxer declined the offer multiple times.
In an interview, Paul recently spoke about Fury, revealing that he could have received nearly £11.25 million [$15 million] for a two-part fight deal. One of the fights would occur in boxing, with a follow-up bout to happen in MMA, marking a trilogy.
“It’s an eight-figure deal for a boxing and an MMA fight. More money than he’s [Fury] ever been offered,” said Paul to the Sun. “But he didn’t take it so the offer isn’t there anymore. “
“Quite frankly, he’s going to realize how much he needs me over the next couple of months when he goes to fight someone again, and he’s getting offered 75k,” he continued. “And the offer is down now, the offer is rescinded first of all and it’s nowhere near that now. He had his opportunity and time to take that.”
Outside of securing fights with Conor McGregor, Nate Diaz, or Mike Tyson, Paul has been hunting for a rematch with Fury since losing to him by split decision in Diriyah, Saudi Arabia in Feb. last year. Fury won the eight-round cruiserweight crossover event with the judges scoring (74–75, 76–73, 76–73.)
Initially, Paul disputed the judge’s scorecards, claiming he lost the fight rather than Fury winning it. Paul scored a knockdown during the contest’s final round, but Fury landed a higher percentage of punches, earning him the nod. He cited shortcomings in his performance, including improper weight cutting and a shortened preparation camp of seven weeks instead of his usual 12, which impacted his ability to enforce his strategy effectively.
Immediately after defeating “The Problem Child,” Fury vowed to grant Paul a rematch from the medical room at the venue. He said: “One hundred percent. At the end of the day, this was my first main event. The world was watching this fight. I have that experience behind me now.”
“So when I go into another big dance like this, I’ll have this behind me and I’ll know how to cope with it. Having been in the ring with Jake once, I’m pretty sure I can get the stoppage next time, he continued.”
The rematch between Paul and Fury has yet to materialize, with Paul attributing the delay to Fury’s inflated ego following his victory in their initial bout. The 27-year-old stated that while Fury merits a higher payout for the rematch, he feels Fury is intentionally inflating his fee and pricing himself out of the event by overestimating his value as a pay-per-view draw.
Fury has fought once since Paul fought against KSI, defeating him unanimously in October. Paul will face Golden Gloves winner Ryan Bourland in Puerto Rico during the co-main event headlined by Amanda Serrano vs. Nina Meinke on Mar 2.
