A new political party has been added to the list of existing parties in the country after the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) registered the Democratic People Congress (DPC) as a political party.
The national chairman of the new party, Rev. Olusegun Peters, said theĀ DPC will participate actively in the democratic process
āin our quest at building a just societyā.The secretary to the Commission, Augusta Ogakwu, in a letter dated July 8,2015, said the new party was registered at its meeting onĀ Friday June 19, 2015.
She disclosed thatĀ the party constitution, manifesto, logo, flag and the list of the national executive officers were also approved, stating that the certificate of registration would be issued in due course.
With the registration of DPC, the total numbers of registered political parties in the country is now 27. Investigation shows that out of the former 26 registered parties, only 11 of them fielded candidates to run for the 2015 presidential election.He revealed that the party will also take part in the Kogi and Bayelsa governorship elections.
Peters said: āWe are going to take part in all the elections coming up in the country anytime from now.We will be in Kogi and Bayelsa States for the governorship elections. We are going to make impact and even sure of winning.ā
