Four killed in fresh Taraba crisis

AT least, four persons have been confirmed dead and many injured in Dan-Anacha, Gassol Local Government Area of Taraba State, following renewed attack by people suspected to be armed Fulani men who unleashed terror on the town on Saturday.

The attack, it was gathered, followed an armed robbery incident in which a Fulani man was killed in a bush after having been attacked.

According to the account of an eye witness, Dooior Torkula, the Fulani stormed Dan-Anacha town in the night and started attacking people “on mere suspicion that they might be responsible for the death of a Fulani man who was robbed and killed in the bush.

“Since the crisis forced the Tiv people out of the area, no single Tiv man is in the bush now. Their security is not guaranteed and the few who have returned are staying in the town. How can the Tiv people possibly kill the Fulani man in a bush where they are not even allowed to stay at the moment?”

According to reports, many of the injured are receiving treatment at the First Referrer Hospital in Mutum Biyu, the local government headquarters, even as many have fled the town for fear of further attacks.
Confirming the attack, Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Joseph Kwaji, a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), said armed Fulani men attacked a Tiv man on his farm around Dan-Anacha and killed him and were organising to attack the town when police got information and mobilised mobile police men to the area
