The continued detention of pro-Biafra activist, Nnamdi Kanu, and former National Security Adviser, Sambo Dasuki, as well as the killing of Shiite protesters highlights President Muhammadu Buhari’s tyranny.
This is according to Ibrahim Musa, the President of the Media Forum of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria.
He claimed Buhari’s response on the Shiites issue proved beyond doubt that he sanctioned the killings of over 1 000 innocent Nigerians who he felt committed a crime in an extra-judicial manner.
These, although the figures have said to have been inflated, were killed during clashes with the army.
“This is wrong and barbaric. We are not in the era of jungle justice,” said Musa.
He pointed out if suspects had allegedly committed crimes, Buhari must not pass judgment as such matters were sub judice.
This is in reference to the trials of Kanu and Dasuki, who are facing charges of terrorism and corruption.
During last week’s media chat, Buhari was quoted as suggesting they had committed the crimes.
“Only tyrants behave this way,” Musa said.
“How can the president of a democratic country like ours say those standing trial for corruption will not be allowed to travel abroad to seek medical attention even when the Courts have granted them such privileges? How can the president of a democratic nation say his opinions and wishes are superior to the laws of our land and our constitution?”
Musa queried why Buhari would negotiate with the Boko Haram on Chibok girls yet they had been named one of the deadliest terror groups in the world who hahadve killed about 20 000 innocent Nigerians.
Yet Buhari fumed over Kanu “who has not hurt a fly.”
“Why justify the continued detention of Nnamdi against a valid Court Order granting him bail if you are not a tyrant?” asked Musa.
Buhari’s spokesperson, Femi Adesina, had not responded to the group’s concerns
