The Federal Government has stopped a planned London trip by the former National Security Adviser (NSA), Col. Sambo Dasuki, whose houses were besieged on Thursday by operatives of the Department of State Security (DSS).
The operatives, who laid siege to Abuja, Kaduna and Sokoto residences of the former NSA, eventually vacated the premises later on Friday.
It was, however, gathered that the operatives went away with travel documents of the former NSA, thus frustrating his planned trip to London.
Sources had said that Dasuki intended to visit his ailing father, the former Sultan of Sokoto, who is receiving treatment for an undisclosed ailment in a London Hospital.
It was learnt that the operatives, who had obtained a search warrant prior to the raid were looking for “incriminating documents” which could nail Dasuki following an ongoing probe into security funds under his watch.
Sources said that the government might be working on a conspiracy theory to kickstart the raid on Dasuki’s homes.
It was learnt that a theory was lately propounded to the effect that the seized $15 million security funds seized in South Africa during the administration of President Goodluck Jonathan was returned and said to have been used to purchase more military hardware.
Government sources were said to have, however, claimed that the equipment said to have been acquired with the funds could not be traced.
A theory was, therefore, formulated that the ammunition might have found their ways into the hands of some insurgents who might be planning further attacks.
Sources claimed that Dasuki might have been technically placed under house arrest as he could no longer travel to see his ailing father, following the seizure of his international passport.
It was also learnt that even though operatives have pulled out of Dasuki’s Abuja residence, a 24-hour surveillance of the house has been ordered to forestall any further moves from the former NSA.
A source in the know said: “The operation against the Ex-NSA was really well coordinated and right now, he appears to be under house arrest. They are looking for documents to link him with a conspiracy theory making the rounds that arms and ammunition purchased with the seized $15 million in South Africa had found their ways to some insurgents who plan to further attack the country.
“No one is sure how the theory came about but certainly the raid and seizure of the NSA’s travel documents have denied him of the plan to visit his ailing father in London. The man is in a hospital in London and Dasuki planned to visit him.
“He, Dasuki is almost under house arrest, because his papers have been seized and his home has come under 24-hour surveillance.”
Dasuki’s homes in Abuja, Kaduna and Sokoto came under a DSS raid on Thursday in an operation said to have been directly coordinated by the DGSS, Lawan Daura.
