The Rivers Police Command on Thursday confirmed an explosion in a panel beater’s workshop at Eliozu, near Port Harcourt, which killed four persons.
The Command`s Spokesman, Ahmad Muhammad, a DSP, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Port Harcourt that the police have received report of the incident.
“ I can confirm to you that the state police command has received report of the gas cylinder explosion at Eliozu today.
“ Four victims were confirmed dead,“ he said.
Muhammad said the police have commenced investigation into the incident.
An eye witness also said that four persons were killed when the gas cylinder exploded.
The witness said that the incident occurred at 6.00pm on Thursday stressing that it occurred at a panel beater’s workshop.
The zonal office of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) said it had not received report of the incident.
The witnesses said that the bodies of the deceased had been taken to a hospital, but could not say the cause of the explosion.
