The British Embassy in Abuja and other relevant agencies failed to appear before the House of Representatives Standing Committee on Diaspora yesterday over alleged planned deportation of over 29,000 Nigerians from the United Kingdom.
Recall that the House had in a resolution directed its relevant Committee to liaise with the relevant agencies to ascertain the rationale behind the alleged decision of United Kingdom authorities.
Speaking during the inaugural meeting of the House Diaspora Committee, the chairperson, Hon. Rita Orji (PDP, Lagos), also said the committee will want to hear from the British Embassy if truly the deportees are Nigerians.
“We want to talk to the direct persons affected to know the modalities and moralities behind their deportation,” she added.
The committee however did not give a new date for the parley but pledged to represent the views and aspirations of Nigerians in the Diaspora.
