Breaking: Lawmaker drags Buhari to court over N700bn bail out

A member of the House of Representatives Igariwey Iduma Enwo has dragged President Muhammadu Buhari before an Abuja Federal Court over the release of N700 billion grants to states to pay backlog of salaries allegedly “without following constitutional process.”

President Buhari had on July 6 approved the release of the funds for the states to be able to settle several months’ salaries they owed their workers.

However, Rep Enwo said the president violated Section 164 of the 1999 Constitution, which provides that such grants could only be given after approval by the National Assembly, but that Buhari did not present the matter to the lawmakers before taking the decision.

He prayed the court to declare Buhari’s action as unconstitutional and prevent the occurrence of such in future.

Others joined in the suit are Attorney-General of the federation, federal ministry of finance, Revenue Mobilization Allocation and Fiscal Commission, Accountant General of the federation and the Auditor General of the federation.
