APC faction blasts Sylva, others over PDP defectors in Bayelsa

APC dissolves presidential campaign council

A faction of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Bayelsa State yesterday faulted the former governor of the state, Chief Timipre Sylva over the reception held at the weekend to receive scores of defectors from the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), saying the action is illegal and a desperate attempt to provide cover for corrupt politicians against possible prosecution by the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari.

The faction of the APC led by Its chairman, Chief Richard Perekemi Kpodo, said though the party is focused on the desired change in the governance of the state and is mobilising the people of the state for the Governorship poll in 2016, the reception held to receive Sylva’s former aides has made the party a dumping ground for corrupt aides of the former president, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan seeking protection against possible prosecution by the present administration.

Chief Kpodo emerged as a factional chairman of the party after a crisis of confidence against the chairman, Chief Tiwei Orunimigha over alleged cases of diversion of party funds and expulsion of some persons from the party.

Speaking during an inaugural interactive session with media executives in the state, held in Yenagoa, Chief Kpodo said the mini-rally held at the newly unveiled party secretariat at Bay Bridge area of the state capital is illegal.

He stated, “As a decent state executive devoid of past indisputable corrupt acts of the former executives, we considered the attempt to make the APC a dumping ground unacceptable and vexatious. APC in the state will not allow the party to become a dumping ground for desperate looters and thieves in need of protection from prosecution.

We are out to maintain due process as provided in the constitution of the party. Every aspiring defector must obtain clearance at the ward through the state level of the party.”
