Andre Onana flies out to join Man Utd squad after signing deal

Must read

Manchester United goalkeeper Matej Kovar has been left out of the club’s squad for their preseason tour of the US ahead of a loan move.

Andre Onana will arrive at Old Trafford this week to become Erik ten Hag’s no1 following David de Gea’s departure.

But the no2 jersey is up for grabs with Dean Henderson expected to leave and Tom Heaton receiving first-team offers from other Premier League sides.

Kovar has provided good accounts of himself this summer, impressing with the ball at his feet in the 1-0 win over Lyon.

But the Czech Republic Under-21 international has been omitted from the 31-man squad that has travelled State-side.

Kovar spent last season on loan with Sparta Prague, helping the club win its first title since 2014 with the club eager to bring him back for the upcoming campaign.

Another United youngster Radek Vitek has been called into the squad to replace Kovar with Onana to join the group later today.

The former Ajax shot stopper was pictured leaving Manchester Airport on Thursday afternoon to join his new teammates in New York and could even make his non-competitive debut for the club on Sunday when United take on Arsenal.

Onana is understood to have completed his medical at Carrington on Wednesday and signed a five-year deal at Old Trafford with the option of a further 12 months.

United will now focus their attention on bringing in a striker with Atalanta’s Ramus Hojlund their top target.

The club are in advanced talks with the Serie A side as they attempt to agree a deal of around £60m for the 20-year-old, who is eager to make the move to Manchester.
