Anambra to name women centre after late Akunyili

The Anambra government is set to name its Women Development Centre after the late Prof. Dora Akunyili in recognition of her contributions to the development of Anambra and Nigeria in general.

This is contained in a statement issued in Awka on Friday by Dr Uju Nwogu, the state Commissioner for Information, Culture and Tourism.

She also said a memorial ceremony in honour of the late information minister would hold on Saturday.

Nwogu said that the ceremony would feature a Holy Mass, a documentary on the life and times of the late Akunyili and tributes by the academia.

Dignitaries expected at the ceremony are representatives of the Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria and top governments functionaries.

She said that Gov. Willie Obiano would also use the occasion to unveil the plaque symbolising the renaming of the women centre after the late erudite professor
