Abdulsalam’s Peace Committee meets political parties

The National Peace Committee that brokered the peace deal signed by political parties in Nigeria prior to the 2015 on Monday met with the two major political parties in the country, reports Vanguard

Monday’s meeting with the parties was the meeting between the committee and any political party since the conduct of the 2015 general elections.

The meeting, which took place at Sheraton Hotel, Abuja, was held behind closed-doors

The meeting was aimed at sustaining the ongoing post-election peace in the country

Also at the meeting were representatives of Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, and the Jamatu Nasril Islam, the umbrella bodies of Christians and Muslims in the country.

The Committee, which is chaired by former Head of State, Gen. Abdulsalam Abubakar, successfully midwifed the peace accord endorsed by both President Goodluck Jonathan and his main rival, Maj.Gen. Muhammadu Buhari, who went on to win the election.
