Four soldiers and one mobile policeman have been killed following an attack on a military checkpoint along the Nembe waterways in Bayelsa.
According to the report, the gunmen, who were in military uniforms and numbering six, caught the soldiers off guard and opened fire while pretending to be on military duties.
It was gathered that Four machine guns and Brandy guns used at the check point were carted away by the gunmen. Leadership gathered that the attack occured at 12am on Friday and the sounds of heavy gunshots threw coastal communities and fishing settlements in Nembe into panic.
When contacted,the JTF spokesman,Lt. Col. Isa Ado confirmed the development and said the attack was unsuccessful as the gunmen were repelled.
Lt. Col. Ado, however, said he could not confirm the number of casualty as at the time of this report.
“Yes,I can confirm to you that there was an attack by some unknown gunmen on our troops in Nembe and the attack was repelled.”
“You can recall that there have been several attempts to overrun our men in Nembe. Our men is on a hot pursuit of the hoodlums as I speak with you,” he added.
