Prominent Islamic clerics, political leaders from across Kwara State and followers of the late Waziri of Ilorin, Dr. Olusola Saraki, gathered yesterday at his Ilorin residence to mark the third anniversary of his demise. The event was put together by the Mandate Office, the coordinating secretariat of Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki’s political structure in the state.
At the event, popular Islamic cleric and Grand Mukhadam of Ilorin, Sheikh Suleiman Danbronou, tasked parents on the need to leave good heritage for their children, particularly by not neglecting their training. The preacher warned politicians against plotting evil for their fellow humans, pointing out that those who do such evils would always reap the same harvest sooner than later. He described the late politician who served as Senate Leader in the Second Republic as a man given to patience and endurance and asked contemporary politicians to toe the same line at all times.
He said:”Saraki was known for peace and tolerance; he tolerated people even when he knew they were cheating on him. He tasted several bitter pills but because of his patience he later came to reap the great harvest. “In the recorded history of Ilorin, we have never gone to the Eid Praying ground to pray for a corpse except for Saraki; there was no space to accommodate the crowd of people who came to pray for him.
Even in his most trying period, he maintained peace and tolerance. “He served the people and that is why if you are in position of power today but you refuse to use it to uplift your people you have missed the point for which God gave you the opportunity.”
