President Muhammadu Buhari has ordered the sack of all the eight Group Executive Directors of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), a move that has set jitters down the spine of all staff of the corporation.
The sack of Group Executive Directors is seen as the second major step towards the probe of the corporation.
Those affected are, GED in charge of Refining and Petrochemicals, Mr Ian Udoh; GED Engineering and Technical, Mr Adebayo Ibirogba; and Group Executive Director, Gas and Power, Dr. David Ige.
Others are Group Executive Director, Commerce and Investments, Ms. Aisha Abdurrahman; Group Executive Director, Corporate Services, Dr. Dan Efebo; Group Executive Director, Business Development, and the Group Executive Director, Exploration & Production, Dr. Attahir B. Yusuf.
The sacking of the eight executive directors was confirmed by the Group General Manager, Group Public Affairs Division, NNPC, Mr. Ohi Alegbe, on Wednesday in Abuja.
Alegbe, in a statement, said, “The Federal Government has approved the retirement of all eight Group Executive Directors of the NNPC with immediate effect.
The statement noted that the new GMD of the NNPC, Dr. Ibe Kachikwu, personally conveyed the Federal Government’s decision to the GEDs.
He expressed gratitude to them for their services to the corporation and wished them success in their future endeavours.
The corporation, however, did not name their replacements, but our correspondent gathered that four new directorates might be created by the government, while some names were already penned down by President Muhammadu Buhari.
