The Court of Appeal, Makurdi Division, yesterday reserve judgment in a case filed by the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) in the April 11 governorship election in Nasarawa State, Mr. Labaran Maku, challenging the judgment of the Governorship Election Petitions Tribunal in that state that upheld the election of Governor Tanko Al-makura.

Maku, a former Minister of Information, had challenged the outcome of the April 11 governorship election in the state which produced Al-makura as the governor at the tribunal which dismissed his petition during its sitting in Lafia.
After hearing from both the appellant and the respondents at yesterday’s sitting in Makurdi, the Benue State capital, the presiding judge, Justice M.L. Garba, announced that the judgment was reserved at a later date to be communicated to the parties in the suit.
In his submission, counsel to the appellant, Chief Awa Kalu (SAN), having adopted his briefs further urged the court to squash the judgment of the tribunal and declare his client a winner of the governorship election.
In his argument, counsel to the Al-makura, Yusuf Ali (SAN), urged the court to dismiss the appellant’s appeal for lacking in merit, submitting that the appellant failed to substantiate his claim at the tribunal. Ali insisted that the appellant failed to prove his case at the tribunal and for not being able to substantiate his claim, he told the court to dismiss the appeal for lacking in merit.
