The organisers of Project ASHA, a nongovernmental organisation, has announced comedian Ali Baba as the headliner of its Empowering Laughter Day & Awards, which takes place tomorrow at the Oriental Hotel, Victoria Island, Lagos. Musicians and comedians expected for the event include Timi Dakolo, Buchi, Ozzy Bosco, Oke Bakasi, Koffi, Toby Grey, Ronnie, TJ Hays and Gordons.
The event will be anchored by comedienne Princess and MC Bambino. Speaking to journalists in Lagos, the coordinator, Project ASHA, Steve Robinson, said they were committed to advocating for and securing the basic human rights and civil liberties of women in the society. “We hope to raise both awareness and funds for Women and Girls Empowerment Work in Nigeria, whilst recognizing notable citizens who champion women, girls and children empowerment.
Funds secured during the award will be donated to charitable courses, which will directly impact the lives of women and girls in the society,” he stated. Steve, who is physically-challenged, said his state drives the desire to help others achieve their dreams. “I have soft bones, that is the reason I am using a support to walk properly.
But I didn’t allow that to stop me from reaching where I want to be. In other developed countries, entertainers come together to organise shows and concerts, to help the less-privileged. The money generated are sent to Africa. We won’t need their help If we do it here ourselves,” he said.
